This congress is organized under the patronage of the Swiss Society of Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery and the Austrian Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery

 Dear Colleagues,

Cardiac surgery has established itself as a very well developed surgical specialty with excellent patient outcome. On the other hand our profession is increasingly challenged and influenced by rapid achievements of interventional cardiology. It is our task and commitment for the future to promote further development of established techniques and integrate new technologies in cardiac surgical practice. The role of conferences is of paramount importance to disseminate the new knowledge, stimulate discussion and allow exchange with the medical device and pharmaceutical industry.

We formally invite you to our 2nd Joint Meeting of the 28th Cardiovascular Surgical Symposium and the 5th Cardiac Surgery Update and Progress Meeting (CSUP) in Zürs.

The meeting will take place from February 27 to March 6, 2010 at the Hotel and Conference venue Robinson Select Alpenrose Zürs.

It is also an aim of our meeting to enable and encourage an exchange between cardiac surgery and cardiology. There are many areas of mutual interest. There are the areas of revascularization, valve replacement and now even valve repair, as well as electrophysiology and imaging, which strive to find a new definition and new roles.

Special consideration including particular education of young residents will be offered by the Interactive Cardiovascular Course with wetlab facilities.

The main topic in 2010 will be AORTIC SURGERY AND ENDOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS. It should provide leading edge information on current state of the art practice as well as on innovation and research. Each day is dedicated to a specific subcategory of the main topic: Basics – Surgical Techniques – Results – Innovations - Associated Topics.  Presentations of distinguished invited speakers as well as free presentations and posters will be given. Thus we would like to encourage clinicians and scientists to submit abstracts dealing with the treatment of aortic diseases as well as exciting topics in field of cardiovascular surgery and interventional approaches.

This will be conducted in a very relaxed and special atmosphere of the Arlberg so that all participants can openly exchange opinions and experiences and will contribute to a very attractive joint meeting.
